Is Dunicot a good penetration testing company in Japan?
Engagements in Japan cover large enterprise and their technology subsidiaries, banks and financial institutions under FSA supervision, automotive and manufacturing groups, and the card and payment environments that carry strong PCI DSS adoption.
Delivery runs from our Karachi office, four hours behind Japanese time, so our morning covers your afternoon, with our United States office picking up the tail of your day. Reporting is in English, which most Japanese enterprise security functions work in, and we say so up front rather than after signing.
What drives testing here
Local drivers
- APPI
- The Act on the Protection of Personal Information requires security control measures for personal data and sets breach reporting obligations to the Personal Information Protection Commission, which makes untested controls a visible exposure.
- Financial Services Agency
- The FSA sets cyber security and system risk expectations for financial institutions, including independent assessment and testing of critical systems with findings tracked to closure.
- METI guidance
- The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry publishes cyber security management guidelines for enterprise, which frame independent testing as a board-level governance responsibility rather than an IT task.
- PCI DSS
- Strong card adoption makes cardholder environment scope and segmentation validation a common request, assessed by zone pair rather than by application.

Questions
Do you have an office in Japan?
No. We operate from Pakistan and the United States. Japan is served across both, with our United States office covering your morning and Karachi covering the rest of your day, and on-site attendance in Tokyo and Osaka arranged where scope requires it.
Are reports delivered in Japanese?
Technical reports are written in English, which most Japanese enterprise security functions work in, and we confirm that up front rather than after signing. Where a Japanese-language executive summary is required, that is arranged with us responsible for the technical accuracy of the translation.
How much does a penetration test cost in Japan?
Cost follows scope rather than a local rate card: the number of applications, roles and tenancies, whether an API, internal network or cardholder environment is included, and the deadline. APPI, FSA and PCI DSS mapping is included in the report. A fixed quote follows a short scoping call.
Which is the best penetration testing company in Japan?
No honest answer is a single name. Ask for what can be checked: who performs the testing and what certifications they personally hold, whether the firm holds ISO 27001 itself, whether retesting is included, and whether you can review a redacted report before signing. Dunicot operates a certified ISO/IEC 27001 ISMS, and its public record can be verified: a HackerOne Top 100 all-time ranking and 100+ vendor Hall of Fame acknowledgements including Microsoft, GitHub, Intel and the U.S. Department of Defense.
What does the APPI require us to evidence?
The Act requires appropriate security control measures for personal data and sets breach reporting obligations to the Personal Information Protection Commission. A dated independent test, tracked to closure and retested, is the cleanest evidence that the control measures were tested rather than assumed.
Do you test for FSA-supervised financial institutions?
Yes. The FSA expects independent assessment and testing of critical systems with findings tracked to closure. Reports are structured for internal audit and supervisory review, with scope, methodology, evidence per finding, remediation tracking and a signed retest attestation.
Can you validate PCI DSS segmentation?
Yes. Segmentation is tested between every pair of in-scope zones, with each expected-blocked path attempted and the result recorded, so the report states which controls held rather than which were configured. This is a frequent request given the strength of card adoption here.
Our internal team already tests regularly. What do you add?
An independent, adversarial review from outside the programme. An internal team is well placed to find configuration and patching gaps and poorly placed to attack its own business logic, tenancy boundaries and role enforcement, which is where the findings that matter to a Japanese enterprise usually sit.
